New artistic advisor Michael Stern kicks off a fresh direction with new music for the ESO

When the ESO called Michael Stern last spring for help in putting together their 2022/23 season, the conductor was more than happy to jump in.

“It was easy, because every other contact I’ve had with this orchestra was so immediately artistically gratifying,” says Stern, who has taken on the role of artistic advisor while the ESO searches for a new artistic director. “We had to put together a program very, very quickly for this coming year. Thankfully I wasn’t working alone, and together we put together something that really has a tremendous amount of variety and stretches the orchestra.”
